Why Are Steroids Bad? – Know The Health Risks

As you probably know, thanks to Instagram and social media.

People are seemingly more obsessed than ever before, with the body beautiful.

While that is generally a positive thing, the downside is the fact that people are becoming obsessed and are going to extreme lengths to reach their goals.

There are probably very few people out there.

That wouldn’t want to look leaner, bigger, and stronger.

So of course, weight training is a great place to begin.

The problem, however, is that some bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts in general.

Are lifting weights and transforming their bodies, with the help of androgenic anabolic steroids.

Successful, popular, attractive, and generally ‘alpha’ men in the media and on TV are typically represented by being in freakishly good shape.

With low body fat percentages, chiseled abs, and heaps of muscle mass that would be difficult to build naturally.

We would then be forgiven, for assuming that these men have been able to achieve such freakish condition, with the help of steroids.

Steroids do provide a lot of positives.

But the negatives generally do outweigh the positives.

So today we will take a look at why are steroids bad for you.

Before we can proceed any further, however, we need to make out thoughts on steroids perfectly clear.

Steroids are dangerous and potentially life-threatening, and we do not condone nor recommend their usage.

We will not cast judgment upon those that do use them.

But in an ideal world, people would build muscle, burn fat, and increase their endurance naturally.

And also what do steroids do, as we cover the darker side of steroid use.

Why Are Steroids Bad?

Now it’s time for us to look at some of the negative effects and side effects of androgenic anabolic steroids.

The thing to remember is that the term ‘steroids’ is very broad because there are dozens of different steroids out there for people to choose from.

Some steroids are stronger than others, and some are weaker.

Powerful steroids will help people to pack crazy amounts of muscle and size onto their frames.

While there are weaker steroids that may simply promote marginal increases in strength and lean mass.

Because each steroid is different, that means that each side effect is also different.

With that said, however, we are going to look at some of the more common side effects associated with most forms of steroid out there.

Just to help give you an idea of why are steroids bad.

These include:

Steroids Can Damage The Liver

One of the more common side effects associated with steroids is the fact that they damage the liver.

Steroids can be injected into the body or they can be swallowed orally.

People often assume that injecting steroids means that they are more dangerous and more powerful than oral steroids because sticking a needle into your body seems a lot more extreme than swallowing a pill.

The reality, however, is that oral steroids are often considered to be more powerful.

This is because when the steroid is swallowed, it has to make its way through the liver.

When steroids are injected, they bypass the liver.

Because of what is found in the oral steroids.

For example, Proviron, over time this can lead to liver toxicity, which will inevitably damage the liver with prolonged use.

To help mitigate the effects of the steroids on the liver.

Experts recommend using a Milk Thistle supplement as this is a natural herbal supplement renowned for its liver-healing properties.

Why Are Steroids Bad?

Steroids Shrink The Testicles

If you mention steroids to somebody that isn’t really familiar with them.

One of the first things they will say to try to scare you is that steroids shrink your penis.

This is not true.

Steroids do NOT shrink the penis.

They never have, and they never will.

So why do people say this?

Well, they say it because they are misinformed.

You see, steroids can cause the testicles to be atrophied.

Which in simple terms means that steroids cause the testicles to shrink.

You see, testosterone is the dominant male sexual health hormone.

And the vast majority of this hormone is produced in the testes.

If you are injecting steroids, including testosterone.

This can throw your hormones out of sync and result in hormonal imbalances.

Basically, the testicles don’t know whether they are coming or going.

The body panics, and like in an emergency in a factory.

You would hit the ‘emergency shut off’ button.

The body shuts down its natural production of testosterone.

This causes the testicles to shrink in size.

And sometimes they can shrink very small.

Which is alarming for first-time steroid users.

Steroids Can Cause Infertility

As you may expect if the testicles become shrunken in size.

And your hormones are thrown out of whack, steroid use can also severely hinder a man’s fertility levels.

Steroids reduce men’s sperm counts because, within the testicles, large quantities of androgens (sex hormones) are ordinarily produced.

If the tests are shrunk, obviously this means that fewer androgens can be produced.

Fewer androgens mean that we can produce lower levels of sperm.

So men’s natural sperm counts decrease as a result of steroid use.

This is why when men are planning on starting a family.

They often cycle off of steroids for a number of months to help their hormonal levels return back to normal.

Steroids Affect a man’s sex life

Another very serious side effect associated with using steroids is the fact that they can severely affect a man’s sex life.

Now, fellas, as we know, getting laid is pretty awesome.

In fact, next to pizza, getting laid is one of life’s little pleasures that never gets boring.

The problem with using steroids is that some of them can affect your sex life.

You see, while there are steroids that boost the libido.

There are also steroids that decrease the libido so your sex drive will be at rock bottom.

If you’re not in the mood for sex, getting laid isn’t going to be happening anytime soon.

As well as affecting the libido, steroids can also affect man’s ability to get an erection.

Deca-Durabolin for example, provides a side-effect known as ‘Deca dick’ which results in impotence as a man will struggle to achieve.

And maintain an erection.

With your hormones so out of whack, steroid use can severely hinder a man’s sex life.

Furthermore, a lot of steroids will actually shut down a man’s natural testosterone production completely.

And as this hormone plays a key role in sexual health and libido.

You can understand why this is such an issue.

Steroids Can Cause ‘Man Boobs’

As a man, having a toned, muscular, powerful chest is a very appealing prospect.

While steroids and plenty of bench pressing will indeed help you to build a muscular chest.

The problem is that some steroids also cause a condition known as gynecomastia, or ‘man boobs’ as people like to call them.

This is because, in the body, testosterone goes through a process known as aromatization.

Aromatization is a process where testosterone is converted into Estrogen.

Estrogen is the female equivalent of testosterone.

And it basically has the exact opposite effect of the test.

Estrogen promotes fat production.

It slows the metabolism, and it causes men to store fat on and around the pecs.

This causes a condition known as gynecomastia.

Which is where the fat makes it look as if a man has female breasts.

Normally gyno causes the nipples and surrounding area to look swollen and puffy.

This can create the illusion of being overweight, even if you’re ripped.

In more extreme cases, however, fat is stored in more parts of the chest.

So it can make a man look as if he genuinely has breasts.

To make matters worse, gyno is a condition that will not clear up on its own.

This means that you can’t just lose weight, or do more push-ups and incline chest flies to lose the gyno.

As the only thing you can do is go under the knife and receive gynecomastia removal surgery.

Steroids Can Cause Women To Appear Masculine

Right, we understand that there is a lot of emphases placed on political correctness these days and while that is a good thing.

Sometimes people do take things slightly too far.

We are going to be brutally honest now.

And say what many other people are thinking and that is that some female bodybuilders do look masculine.

There are female bodybuilders out there that weigh more than 200 pounds of solid muscle.

And because of all of the steroids and hormones that they have used.

In all honesty, they do look like men in drag.

Steroids are very powerful and if female bodybuilders use steroids that increase testosterone.

Or if they simply choose to inject testosterone.

They will wind up looking masculine.

Steroids can cause women’s heads to enlarge along with their jawlines.

They cause hair to grow at an accelerated rate.

So facial hair and hair on the chest becomes common.

They also gain huge amounts of muscle and look bigger than some grown adult males of average size.

On top of that, they even cause the clitoris to enlarge.

Sometimes by several inches, which can be pretty startling.

There are, however, weaker steroids such as Anavar which do not provide the same effects as powerful steroids and hormones based on testosterone.

Instead, some of these steroids simply promote slight increases in muscle mass, they help to burn fat, and keep energy levels stable.

It is, however, worth noting that some powerful steroids for women are indeed responsible for female bodybuilders looking like men.

So just bear that in mind if you are considering running a cycle.

Steroids Can Be Addictive

Before we go any further, steroids, as far as we know so far.

Do not contain any substances which are classed as addictive.

When people drink several cups of coffee per day for years at a time.

If they suddenly decide to stop drinking coffee.

They will experience withdrawal symptoms and they will crave the coffee because of the caffeine found in it.

Caffeine is an addictive substance that makes us crave the foods and drinks it is naturally found in.

Steroids do not contain any similar compounds.

Yet they are still seen as being addictive.

But why?

Well, it’s all psychological.

If you use steroids, eat right, and train hard, you will burn fat and pack heaps of muscle onto your body.

However, once you finish your steroid cycle.

Even if you train and eat right, you will still lose some muscle and you will never naturally be as big as when you were on gear.

Psychologically, men often think that they need steroids to look muscular.

Otherwise, they don’t see the point.

A lot of steroid users will actually not even bother training in the gym for several months if they aren’t on cycle, so this just shows you the type of mentality that steroids can promote.

Steroids Cause Hypertension

Hypertension is another word for high blood pressure.

And it is sometimes known as the silent killer.

Hypertension is caused by many things – steroids being one of them.

Studies have found that steroid use can promote a dramatic increase in blood pressure.

Which is very dangerous.

Hypertension can lead to heart disease, heart attack, renal failure, an increased risk of stroke, and much more besides.

Steroid use, therefore, can potentially put your life at risk.

This is yet another example of why are steroids bad for you.

After the age of 30, your body starts declining in hormones production, and the body decreases its testosterone production. This decrease, however, is very gradual and its effects can only felt around the age of 50. Common signs of testosterone decline include fatigue, decreased libido and problem having erections. While these effects can be most nerve-wracking, they are relatively common. Talk to your doctor at this stage, who will examine your condition and accordingly prescribe medicines or advise lifestyle changes.
